At the heart of EcoSciGen’s mission is a strong commitment to advancing climate literacy and research in Nigeria to drive solutions rooted in the realities of our communities. Our goal is to improve the climate literacy of Nigerians while increasing the representation and leadership of indigenous researchers in the country’s climate research landscape. We believe that to inspire authentic climate action, we must empower individuals and communities with the right knowledge. We maintain that education must be accessible to everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic background, and Africans should lead the research efforts across the continent.
To achieve this, we implement targeted climate literacy projects and provide research resources to communities and young people who otherwise might not have access to them. We are committed to removing the barriers that prevent our communities from participating in climate research, ensuring that those experiencing or had experienced the reality of the climate crisis also get an opportunity to lead African climate research. We design our training and resources to equip young people, community leaders, and professionals with the technical and soft skills needed to carry out impactful climate research that competes on the global stage.

In addition to research skills, we emphasise the importance of effectively communicating findings to stakeholders at the local, regional and national level. Our research and educational initiatives prioritise local data and insights to drive solutions tailored to the specific challenges of our communities. Through collaboration with local scholars, scientists, and indigenous communities, we gather critical data to inform policy recommendations, adaptation strategies, and community-led initiatives.
